Entomology Excursion

Join Abigail Lehner, a PhD candidate and passionate entomologist from the University of California, Davis, for an engaging field excursion that dives into the fascinating world of pollinators. Abigail brings hands-on experience from monitoring bee communities at Pinnacles National Park. She now focuses her research on the blue orchard bee and its growing vulnerability to climate change and invasive species like the Houdini fly.

Participants will explore the critical role native bees and other pollinators play in the Catalina Island ecosystems.  Whether you're a seasoned naturalist or just curious about the tiny creatures that power our food systems, this excursion promises insights, stories from the field, and practical takeaways for pollinator protection.
Follow along with her work on social media @entomologyabby for a preview of her bug-loving enthusiasm!

Lunch is not included, please pack your own snacks and lunch.  Bring a re-usable water bottle. Come dressed for a field day with layers, sun protection, long pants and sturdy shoes.

Boat fare on the Catalina Express is not included. Participants should make those reservations as soon as possible if they do not live on the island.
